Sperm Freezing

Many men and persons born with testicles may choose to freeze sperm before a vasectomy or before specific types of medical therapy, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy or gender affirmation surgery. Through sperm cryopreservation, someone born with testicles can preserve healthy sperm for creating future biological offspring.

Sperm Freezing is for:

  • Couples or single men who are not ready to start a family

  • Men undergoing cancer therapy

  • Couples who have attempted to conceive for 6+ months

  • Options for couples interested in surrogacy

  • Men with sperm disorders that may prevent natural conception from occurring

The process,
explained simply.

  • Depending on your reason for choosing sperm freezing, you’ll go through diagnostic testing to see what the cause of your infertility is. Depending on the results, sperm freezing may not be necessary or feasible, or the doctor might recommend alternative treatments to start.

  • The doctor will review your diagnosis with you and discuss your treatment options. If you decide to use sperm freezing, our doctor and staff will go over the entire process including financials to determine if sperm freezing is right for you.

  • A semen analysis is performed prior to any treatment to determine sperm count and health.

  • Once semen is retrieved, it will be quickly frozen in a process called vitrification, which stores semen in cyro chamber tanks filled with liquid nitrogen until ready for use.
