Surrogacy

Surrogacy is a fertility treatment where a ‘surrogate’, medically termed a gestational carrier, uses their uterus (ie their womb) to carry a child not derived from their own eggs, for another person or couple. When using a gestational carrier, the intended parents’ eggs and/or sperm or donor eggs and/or sperm are used to create embryos which are then transferred into the surrogate’s womb. Depending on the patients, the embryo carried by a surrogate can be derived from a sperm donor, an egg donor or the intended parents.

Surrogacy is for:

  • Health conditions that prevent an individual from carrying a baby

  • Single Parent by choice family building

  • Same-sex or transgender couples where neither individual has a uterus

  • Absence or impairment of a uterus

  • Cancer causing unsafe measures to carry the pregnancy

  • LGBTQIA+ couples

The process,
explained simply.

  • If you decide to use a surrogate, our doctor and staff will go over the entire process including financials to determine if a surrogate is right for you.

  • If you choose to find a surrogate, it will be gestational, or when the surrogate does not have a genetic tie to the child they carry. This makes the legal arrangements more straightforward. When it comes to choosing a surrogate, look for an individual who is healthy, with a uterus between the ages of 21 and 35, with a history of normal pregnancy, and full-term delivery sans complications.
